about

In Alice Sebold's novel "The Lovely Bones" you get the narration of a murdered girl name Susie Salmon; whose life is taken by a deviant killer with an appetite for young women. This song is that similar story, except through the eyes of a killer who cannot stop. Two books really inspired this song, "The Lovely Bones" and legendary true crime writer Ann Rule's most popular book "The Stranger Beside Me", which was her account of working beside Ted Bundy at a suicide hotline call center, never suspecting he was one of the most sick and twisted individuals ever to grace the planet. For years I have wondered what could push a person to those horrible limits and my questions led to this song. I strongly suggest reading both books if given the chance. Please enjoy "Lovely Bones".

lyrics

In a life so full of catechisms, you got me rapping with em,
open handed slaps to all the rapture that you captured
In a mason jar, free mason, play the part, shatter hearts
Scatter parts, broken is the morning star, every shard,
Magic tricks, show em off, is this your card?
Drinking cognac and I am pissing art,
Thinking hard, disregard
The ugliness of sounds,
(the ugly sounds) like a starling falling to the ground
Its so profound and prophetic, know I love the way you said it
With hidden intent, bat those lashes, staring back at me
And giving consent, I don’t regret how far it went
Or how I left it, you were the sacrificial beast,
You were my precious

THIS IS THE WAY THAT I AM, THE WAY I SEE THE LIGHT
FOREVER BRIGHT (FOREVER FOCUSED)
REVEAL THE MONSTER THAT YOU LINGER BESIDE
KNOW I KEEP HIM INSIDE
THE DEVILS INSIDE

I loosely change the way I think to loosen up this noose I made
The shade of weeping willows keeps the sun from ever creeping in
Im talking to my shadows and reflections in the gallows
Gotta swallow inhibitions and commit myself to prowess
And these crimes of passion, im just a man of action
Overacting every twisted fantasy, so underhanded
Understand that hyde dwells in Jekyll
It’s the dying of the rose petals, trying to escape
Elude, aloof, the bones I break with metal
And when these women scream…uhhh…it plays like symphonies
A lullabye that gets inside, like tinkering the piano keys
Resembling the teeth of this creature that’s beneath my surface
My words are lip service, to help engage the nervous.

THIS IS THE WAY THAT I AM, THE WAY I SEE THE LIGHT
FOREVER BRIGHT (FOREVER FOCUSED)
REVEAL THE MONSTER THAT YOU LINGER BESIDE
KNOW I KEEP HIM INSIDE
THE DEVILS INSIDE

I wear this cast made of plaster and kiss these skulls with hammers
Forget where my manners have gone,
it doesn’t matter, leave you lifeless
Life is shattered, crisis, gag you into silence,
your compliance puts you quickly
In the center of my iris, leave you eyeless,
you cant see the real me, the real things
So I blow, these smoke rings, so carefree, to ceilings,
And tarnish everything you’ve ever learned about compassion
Wild animal arriving to a human interaction, im attracted to the
Color of your blackened little breathing pattern, pulse is beating
Nothing, nothing, nothing, then your spirit shatters
Paths to heaven mapped for you, but never was the type to follow
Pose you like a paper crane, like Ichabod in sleepy hollow

THIS IS THE WAY THAT I AM, THE WAY I SEE THE LIGHT
FOREVER BRIGHT (FOREVER FOCUSED)
REVEAL THE MONSTER THAT YOU LINGER BESIDE
KNOW I KEEP HIM INSIDE
THE DEVILS INSIDE
